The appointment system:

For routine appointments contact the surgery and one of our reception staff will help you book in the most convenient time for you. For anything that you feel you require urgent medical attention for then please contact the surgery as soon as possible.

Tell us if you want someone to accompany you during an examination or if you require access to a private room to discuss any matters - we will make every effort to accommodate your request.

Let us know if more than one person in the family needs to be seen or if you need to discuss more than one complaint. We can offer you a longer appointment if necessary.

The doctors generally have morning and evening sessions, times do vary, the receptionist will advise you. Nurses have surgeries all day. Please note that the surgery does close at 1:00pm on a Thursday at the Student Health Centre and the calls are diverted to Radford Medical Practice which is open until 6:30pm. Periodically we have "Protected Learning Time" session’s, these are normally held on Tuesday afternoons and the surgery will be closed, however posters will be sited prior to the dates.

Cancelling Appointments

If you can't make an appointment please contact us as soon as possible. This allows the appointment to be rebooked for someone else. Repeated non-attendance could result in you being removed from the practice list.

Specialist and Hospital Care

If the doctor believes you need hospital treatment or specialist care elsewhere, he/she will ask you where and when you would like to go. Your appointment may be booked electronically while you wait or by the secretary some time after your consultation (usually within seven days).
If you prefer to have some time to think before deciding where and when you wish to have your treatment, you will be offered the option of calling the Practice later and the secretary will be able to book your appointment at that time.

Chaperones

It is our practice policy to inform patients when an intimate examination is required. We explain the reason for it, what can be gained from it, and offer a chaperone if needed. The patient may choose to book another appointment to have the examination carried out or indeed may wish another doctor to carry this out.

The chaperone must be on the inside of the curtain and their identity recorded in the medical record.

Our nursing staff are happy to chaperone when asked to do so. Reception staff can also be called upon to chaperone in the absence of nursing staff if they are willing to carry out this role.
